Update on autoimmune testing

There are a whole range of tests that can be immensely useful when working on your autoimmune health. Below are three recently revised tests that I frequently use in practice:

Doctors Data Cardio MetabolicProfile - recently revised with new markers including ApoB and Lp(a).

Autoimmune conditions are associated with chronic inflammation, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic problems over time. Certain medications, such as corticosteroids, can also increase these risks.

This test is very helpful for those who have been told their cholesterol is high, as it provides a more accurate picture, as well as pinpointing where the problems lie.

It is also a good place to start if you have a family history of heart disease and want to know what specific steps you can take to reduce your risk.

The Doctors Data CardioMetabolic Profile goes beyond a standard cholesterol test by including newer markers such as Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), which provides a more accurate assessment of cardiovascular risk than LDL cholesterol alone in many people, Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], an inherited risk factor for heart disease, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), a marker of inflammation. It also assesses blood sugar regulation and other metabolic health markers.

Precision Analytical DUTCH testing

Autoimmune conditions rarely have just one cause. Rather they develop over a number of years as a result of genetics and various environmental factors.

Reproductive hormone imbalances are a common trigger for autoimmune conditions; puberty, the contraceptive pill or coil, peri-menopause, menopause and inappropriate HRT can all contribute.

Oestrogen dominance (high oestrogen relative to low progesterone) is one of the most common triggers I see in clinic, yet once identified is relatively straightforward to manage.

The range of DUTCH tests have been recently updated to provide a broader and more holistic view of hormone balance, adrenal function, sleep, nutrient status, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter metabolism, and cellular health—all from a single test.

Mosaics Diagnostics Mycotoxins Panel

People with autoimmune conditions are more vulnerable to mycotoxins. If these build up in the system, they can contribute to inflammation and be a significant barrier to progress when trying to improve your autoimmune health.

Symptoms vary, but almost always include anxiety, cravings, fatigue and brain fog.

The Mosaic MycoTox Test measures a range of mycotoxins (toxins produced by certain moulds and fungi) that may be encountered through the environment, food, or water-damaged buildings.

Identifying potential mycotoxin exposure can provide additional information when investigating complex autoimmune cases that include the symptoms mentioned above, as well as digestive issues, numbness / tingling and vertigo.

The test can help to identify which mycotoxins are present, which nutrient deficiencies and system imbalances they are impacting, as well as pinpointing where use of certain botanicals may be supportive.
